Words on a Feather

Above is a picture I took of a swan next to the Grand Canal in Dublin, Ireland last year and printed recently in the darkroom. I often find pictures of birds generic, and was disinclined to actually print the bird pictures I had taken along the canal. When I did print this one, however, everyone I showed it to had to take a second look; they had to ask me what it was before seeing it was a picture of a swan. Their confusion about this photograph made me realize that even banal subject matters can be captured in a different light, literally, in order to make something unique. This, I believe, is an inspiring challenge to any artist.
